Celebrating 120 Years of SUMA – A Special Performance in Saskatoon
On April 15, 2025, I had the great honour of performing a live sand art piece at the SUMA (Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association) 120th Anniversary Gala.
SUMA is an organization that represents cities, towns, and communities across Saskatchewan, working together to build stronger, more sustainable futures. This year’s Gala marked 120 years of that collective journey, and it was a privilege for me and T.SAND to be invited to such a meaningful event.
This was also my first visit to the province of Saskatchewan, and I was truly touched by the charm of Saskatoon — a city full of warmth, culture, and natural beauty.
We stayed at the historic Bessborough Hotel, and its castle-like presence and view of the river left a deep impression on me as both an artist and traveler.
For the Gala, I created a performance that traced SUMA’s 120-year legacy – a story of growth, cooperation, and community.
To express this long-standing journey through sand felt both humbling and inspiring.
This experience will remain a special memory for me, not only as a sand artist, but as someone continuing to share stories through art in a new country.
