The rain just keeps falling outside my window these days.
My destination was Trico LivingWell Senior Centre, where I had the privilege of meeting the residents for the third time. I am truly grateful for another meaningful opportunity to share this special experience with them.
Since first arriving in Canada in 2023, I have been regularly visiting senior centres throughout the community, sharing stories through sand art. While I perform on many different stages, there is always something especially meaningful about the journey to a senior centre. It holds a very personal place in my heart.
Although my mother is no longer with us, she used to spend time at a senior centre back in South Korea. Perhaps that’s why, whenever I meet the seniors here in Canada, I often catch a glimpse of my mother’s warm smile in theirs.
Remembering those days with my mother, every visit becomes much more than a performance. It is a heartfelt opportunity to bring a little more joy, share kindness, and connect through art.
For this visit, I wanted to offer something especially moving, so I chose Chopin’s Nocturne No. 2 (Op. 9, No. 2). Its lyrical piano melody blended naturally with the ever-changing visual storytelling of sand art, creating a quiet and immersive atmosphere for everyone in the room.
After the performance, the residents enjoyed creating their own sand art. Seeing their smiles as they explored this unique art form was truly heartwarming.
I sincerely wish all the wonderful residents at Trico LivingWell continued good health, happiness, and peace.
